This is a real hidden gem on the Northumberland Strait, looking across to PEI. Since Hurricane Fiona knocked over 10,000 trees on the course about 3 years ago, the Strait has been visible from every hole which makes for some enjoyable views. A tough course with a well-deserved reputation for slick greens - don’t get above the hole!

On the ocean, developed by a local billionaire, I think he (and now his heirs) has put most of his money into the course. In the process of going from 18 to 36 holes, we’ll be playing the original front 9 and the new back 9. The original back 9 was great, but now being redeveloped. Really good fun to play, friendly resort style, new back 9 is on the water and has a really nice links feel to it - just played it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. This has become a very popular corporate resort and an occasional treat for local Maritimes.

11:00 AM Golf Bell Bay
It’s a well rated course, overlooking the Bras D’Or lake (big inland sea in Cape Breton). Views should be terrific, but restricted by tree growth. Well managed, a North American style course which I’ve played a few times and still trying to find the character of the course

At the base of the Ben Eoin ski hill, the course is fun and in a great location overlooking the eastern side of the Bras D’Or Lake. I’ve found this a fun course to play in the past, lots of variety.

Opened about 90 years ago, long-time ranked as #1 public course in Canada. Designed by the most famous of Canadian golf architects, Stanley Thompson, and by his own admission, his favourite. Beautifully sculpted from ocean along a river valley, it has so much character. It is extremely challenging, I just read it is #3 in difficulty in Canada, so bring an extra ball or two. But you will love it. Perhaps my favourite course (although Cabot Cliffs is hard to beat).

11:12 AM Golf Cabot Links
Opened about 15 years ago, a true links course built through the dunes of Inverness and overlooking the ocean. In benign weather, it’s a fun and a fairly challenging course, but when the Scottish weather descends, it’s a monster. It has been ranked in top 50 worldwide, and is Top 3 (#3) in Canada. The accomodations and restaurant are excellent.

It has some truly spectacular holes, another links course just a stone’s throw from the Links. Opened about 8 years ago, it shot into the Top 10 worldwide and is considered to be #1 in Canada. I like it better than the Links, in fact better than Pebble Beach. The long Par 4 #15 over the hill to the water, short Par 3 #16, short loopy par 4 #17 and Par 5 #18 along the water over a couple of inlets are a terrific end to a fabulous course. A great way to end a Super Nova Scottessey.
