Saturday Sept 12: Golf Bay of Quinte South Course, Belleville
7:45 AM Breakfast Georges Cafe
8:30 AM Drive to 1849 Old Highway 2, Belleville Ontario
9:30 / 9:40 / 9:50 AM Golf Bay of Quinte South Course
The South Course is the original 18 hole classic parkland layout, and its historical roots that tell a story. Designed by two renowned golf course architects, this track is a Howard Watson / Robbie Robinson co-design nearly 3 decades apart, as Watson designed the first 9 holes open to play in 1921, and Robinson designed the second 9 holes thirty years later. Still a must-play over a century after it all began.
Bay Of Quinte was the old established country club but has gone through alot of change over the years. New ownership maybe 7-10 years ago has invested in new holes, people and hospitality. The old holes were flat, the new holes are hilly, and the new layout mixes the two well. Not sure if it has grown from 27 to 36 holes yet, but if not they are close. Positive trend line here.

9:00 AM Drive to 418 1000 Islands Parkway, Lansdowne, Ontario
11:40 / 11:50/ 12:00 AM Golf Smugglers Glenn (Lidstone)
The designer, Boyd Barr of Barr Designs, has come up with an outstanding and unique golf course design, incorporating many natural features of the rugged Canadian Shield into a visually stunning and challenging test of golf.
Make sure you are keeping the ball in play, this course features a target style design, where good course management is rewarded.
Smugglers is different from everything else you will p[lay on this trip. The Canadian Shield cuts south from Algonquin, north of Toronto going east and crosses the St Lawrence River around Gananoque. Smugglers was built on this geology. A very pretty setting. Some amazing rock outcrops that can lead to interesting bounces when you are off your desired line.

Monday Sept 14: Golf Black Bear Ridge - Belleville
8:00 AM Breakfast
9:00 AM Drive to 501 Harmony Rd, Corbyville, ON
10:20 / 10:30 / 10:40 AM Golf Black Bear
Black Bear Ridge is an amazing hidden gem in Ontario, one of the province’s best tracks. Interestingly enough, the course wasn’t designed by one of the high profile architects synonymous with the SCOREGolf Top 100 rankings list. It was designed by the late Brian Magee, owner of the golf course, and truly, just a guy who loved golf. The fact that someone with no experience can build one of the best golf courses in the country is fascinating, an anomaly in itself, and certainly something to be appreciated.

Tuesday Sept 15: Golf Timber Ridge - Brighton
8:00 AM Breakfast Georges Cafe
9:30 AM Drive to 19 Timber Ridge Dr, Brighton, Ontario
10:51 / 10:59 / 11:07 AM Golf Timber Ridge
Considered the best kept secret in eastern Ontario, this track was designed by local designer Steven Ward. The portfolio of Steven Ward is small but mighty. Working all over the world, he worked close to his hometown of Picton when he designed to of Belleville’s preeminent tracks in Timber Ridge and Trillum Wood. And boy oh boy, both hit the mark!
The course is continually celebrated in the Top 10 Best Value Courses in Canada, and was once ranked #95 course in Canada by SCOREGolf (2006), when it first opened. Recently, the courses underwent a bunker renovation project upgrading to all white sand, and the results are amazing.
Timber Ridge is one of my "home courses" as I play 15-20 rounds a year there. It is a bit of a hidden gem from the point of view of the Toronto based public players, just because of the distance from Toronto. Lots of variety in the holes. Good turf, good design, tricky greens, nice people. The 13th hole is one of my favorites. My buddies think we are blessed to have it so close to where we are based.

Designed by Steven Ward, an unheralded designer that hailed from the Belleville area, Trillium Wood is an exceptional play. Beautiful, stunning, challenging, creative, unique, Trillium Wood sets the bar.
Trillium Wood was the first new course in the Quinte area in decades, and it is now probably 30 years old. It has matured nicely. Good combination of tree lined fairways and open fields. Some excellent water hazards that make you decide to go for it, or take the long way around. You get choices
